BACKGROUND HISTORY

We know that for Indonesia country condition at the moment, they have got a long crisis of social, politic, economic growth and unemployment, this has made an impact to their people or community. If we look around us, we will find a lot of people can not live properly, a lot of children must work to help their parents and can not continue their school, price of life needs is always increasing.

A lot of natural disaster had happened, for example Tsunami and Earthquake in Aceh, Nias, Yogya, North Sulawesi and Ambon. This disaster made impact to a lot of victim, people lost their families, and a lot of children were neglected, do not have parents and their other families. If they have families, they can not live properly, they live in poorness, less education, also no love and faith to God.

GKI Sinode West Java Region has made several servings to the community such as:

  1.  Servings to the elder community through Panti Werda Hana
  2.  Servings in education through BPK Penabur
  3.  Other servings

The Church Community of GKI Kepa Duri felt called to give servings more specifically to children of less-lucky destiny as young generation of the country.

The inspiration to establish an orphanage was realised by building a Foundation of Community Cooperation Asih Lestari (Yayasan Kerja Sama Masyarakat Asih Lestari) on 25 October 1988, which was later become to Badan Pelayanan Kemasyarakatan Asih Lestari (BPK Asih Lestari) at the end of 2002.

During construction, it had experienced a lot of obstacles due to long and difficult procedures besides a lot of funding requirements.

Glory to God, after approximately 15 years the Church Community of GKI Kepa Duri long hoped for an orphanage, finally at the end of December 2004 an orphanage named Panti Asuhan Asih Lestari was built. The building was built on a piece of land of 2000 square meters in Kelurahan West Kosambi, Tangerang.

Supports of prayers, energy, minds and funds from the Church Community of GKI (Indonesian Christian Church) specifically the Church Community of GKI Kepa Duri and all donors as well as other parties may help realised the dream of the Church Community of GKI Kepa Duri to establish an orphanage.

Panti Asuhan Asih Lestari (Asih Lestari Orphanage) is an effort and a hope of a church as a form of community participation in the country to contribute to life needs and proper education as well as love to children of less-lucky families in realising children welfare.

Since 17 June 2006 Panti Asuhan Asih Lestari has been ready to receive children who badly need help; children from the have-nots, orphans and children of no-care. This orphanage will facilitate 100 children from age 5 to 18 years. They will be educated until they finish their senior high school and be ready for work.
